newagestore tarot: how to choose your first deck

Okay, so I’ve been getting into this whole tarot thing lately. It all started a few weeks ago when I stumbled upon this little shop called “New Age Store” downtown. I’d walked by it a million times, but something about it that day just pulled me in. Next thing I know, I’m inside, and it’s like a whole other world in there. Crystals, incense, books about chakras…you name it. But what really caught my eye was the tarot section. Rows and rows of these beautifully illustrated cards. I felt totally drawn in, like a moth to a flame, you know?

Choosing My Deck

I spent a good hour just browsing, feeling completely overwhelmed but also super excited. There were so many different decks, each with its own unique style. I mean some looked darker, like gothic, others were all bright and colorful. I’ve never picked one out before. How am I supposed to know which one is right for me? I picked up a few that looked interesting and flipped through them. The artwork on some of them was just incredible! Then I saw that most guides talked about the Rider-Waite deck. I found one and began to flip through it. The pictures were simple but powerful, and I felt like I could actually understand what they were trying to say.

So I did something I’ve never done before. I got some quiet, held the deck to my chest, and asked the universe to let me know if this was the one for me. Corny, I know, but it just felt right. And then, bam! I got this warm, tingly feeling all over. It was like the cards were saying, “Pick me! Pick me!” I decided to trust my gut and bought the deck. I also grabbed a guidebook for beginners because, let’s be honest, I had no clue what I was doing.

My First Reading

That night, I cleared off my kitchen table, lit a candle, and laid out the cards. I shuffled them, thinking about a question I had in my mind, and then I drew three cards. I used the guidebook to look up the meanings, and you guys, I was blown away. The cards I drew actually related to my question! It was like they were speaking directly to me. It wasn’t a clear-cut answer, but it gave me some new perspectives to think about. I know it sounds weird, but it felt like I was tapping into something bigger than myself.

  • Daily Draws: Every morning, I started pulling a single card just to see what the day might have in store for me. It’s become a nice little ritual.
  • Practice Readings: I’ve been practicing doing readings for myself and my friends. It’s still a bit clumsy, but it’s getting easier. I even made my own tarot journal to keep track of everything.
  • Learning More: I’m reading more books and watching videos about tarot to deepen my understanding. It’s like a whole new language to learn.

It’s been a few weeks now, and I’m still totally hooked on tarot. I’m treating it mostly as a tool for self-reflection, a way to check in with myself and gain some clarity. I mean, it’s not like I’m making major life decisions based on the cards, but they’ve definitely helped me to think about things from different angles. It’s like having a conversation with my intuition, you know? And who knows, maybe one day I’ll get good enough to read for other people professionally. But for now, I’m just enjoying the journey and seeing where it takes me. It all started by walking into that shop that day. Crazy how things work out sometimes, right?
