You ask, does amethyst fade in the sun? Well, I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout it down at the market the other day. They say that purple stone, the amethyst, it ain’t supposed to be left out in the sun too long. It can lose it color or something I guess.
Now, I ain’t no fancy rock expert, but I’ve seen a thing or two in my time. I had this pretty purple brooch once, my mama gave it to me. It weren’t a real amethyst, just some colored glass, but it was pretty all the same. I wore it every Sunday to church. Left it on the windowsill one day, a real scorcher, and what do you know? That purple color, it just kinda went away. Turned all pale and sad-lookin’. So, I reckon it’s true what they say, too much sun ain’t good for these purple stones, these amethyst.
So, if you got yourself some amethyst, whether it’s a ring, or a necklace, or just a loose stone you like to keep, you best be careful. Don’t go leavin’ it out in the sun all day. It’s like when you leave your clothes out on the line too long, they get all faded and worn out. Same idea, I suppose. This amethyst, it can fade too if exposed sunlight for too long.
I heard them say somethin’ ’bout the iron in the stone. The more iron in the amethyst, the more it’s gonna fade in the sun. Don’t ask me what iron’s got to do with it, I ain’t no scientist. But that’s what they say. I think they mean it make the color change or somethin’.
- Keep it outta the sun, that’s the first thing.
- Don’t let it sit in the window, not where the sun shines right on it.
- When you ain’t wearin’ it, put it away in a box or somethin’.
- The heat is no good for it, neither, I hear.
Now, some folks, they say you can put your amethyst in the sun to “charge” it. Sounds like a load of hogwash to me, but what do I know? They say it makes the stone work better, do its… stone things. But even those folks, they say you gotta be careful. Don’t leave it out there too long, or you’ll end up with a faded rock.
They say it’s the UV rays, somethin’ called ultraviolet. Those are in the sunlight. They mess with the color in the amethyst, make it go away. Like I said, I ain’t no expert, but that’s what I heard. I guess it breaks down the color somehow. They mention some chemical stuff, hydro- somethin’ acid, ammonium somethin’ or other. Don’t use them to clean your amethyst. Use warm water and soap, that’s enough.
It is also said that sunlight can make some stones brittle. I think that means easy to break. Like dry twigs. Not good for a pretty stone. You don’t want it to crack or chip, do you? So that’s why I told you need to protect your amethyst from the sunlight.
I remember one time, I saw a lady with a big amethyst ring. She was always wearin’ it, even when she was workin’ in her garden. That ring was out in the sun all day, every day. And you know what? It started to look kinda dull. The purple wasn’t as bright anymore. She didn’t seem to notice, but I did.
So, if you got an amethyst, and you want it to stay pretty and purple, you listen to me. Keep it out of the sun. It ain’t worth the risk. You don’t want your pretty stone turnin’ all pale and lifeless, do you? A little bit of sun probably won’t hurt, but don’t overdo it. That’s all I’m sayin’. Keep that amethyst safe, and it’ll stay pretty for a long, long time. Just common sense, really. Also you should prevent heat, and keep it away from some kinda water that can change it color too.
Now, I ain’t sayin’ you gotta lock it away in a dark room and never let it see the light of day. Just be smart about it. Like you wouldn’t leave a cake out in the sun, would you? It’d melt all over. Same idea with the amethyst, except it don’t melt, it just fades. I hope you understand what I say. It is really important to protect you amethyst.
It’s a shame, really. Such a pretty stone, and it’s so delicate. But that’s just the way it is, I suppose. We all got our weaknesses, even these strong lookin’ stones. Just gotta take care of ’em, that’s all. That’s true for everything, ain’t it? People, plants, animals, even pretty purple stones. They all need a little lookin’ after. So you remember that, and your amethyst will be just fine. Remember don’t leave it under the sun.
